Supporting Sidewalk

Here at Sidewalk we are always on the lookout for helping hands. There are a number of different ways you can support Sidewalk.

As a small charity we are reliant on the generosity and sacrifice of the local community and people from further afield. Without you we simply wouldn't exist. Fundraising continues to be one of our most significant challenges particularly in the current environment. Each year we have to raise around £8,000 excluding the project coordinators salary (currently funded by Children in Need) to sustain the work we do. We work hard to ensure all donations are spent wisely meeting the needs of young people in the town.

If you would like to support us financially there are three key options.

1. One-off donations

Cheques can be made payable to 'Sidewalk Detached Youth Project'  and sent to Sidewalk Youth Project, Albemarle Baptist Church, Albemarle Crescent, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 1XX

2. Online donations

You can donate securely online at our 'My Donate' page

3. Become a regular supporter - Join 'The Fifty!'

As a small charitable project regular donations are critical to our survival and enable us to plan and budget more effectively. Sadly we currently have very few regular donors and really need to grow this area of our fundraising. So we our launching ' The Fifty' campaign! We're looking for 50 people that share Sidewalk's vision and would like to support us with a small regular donation. Just £5 a month, or whatever you can afford, makes a real difference and enables us to continue to support young people in the town. If you feel drawn to the work of Sidewalk and are willing to support us in this way please do get in touch on the contact page or through our address. We will keep you up to date with our newsletter so you can hear how your support is helping to make a difference in the lives of young people. Email: or call 01723 366186

Friends of Sidewalk

Here at Sidewalk we are all about community. We strongly believe that if we are to see change in our town we have to work together to create a better future. If you are a local business or organisation and you are interesting in supporting a local charity please consider becoming a 'Friend of Sidewalk'. Perhaps you could nominate us as your charity of the year or support us with a yearly donation. Alternatively you might have some resources or equipment that you think might be of use to us.

If you share Sidewalk's vision for supporting young people in Scarborough then maybe you could consider joining the team?

Volunteers are crucial to our day to day operation and are a invaluable part of the organisation. There are two key areas you can get involved in: Youth Work If you feel you could offer your services in face to face delivery there are a number of different opportunities for you. You could join us out on the streets engaging with young people through our detached youth work or perhaps you could become part of one of our group work project or activity trips. Alternatively maybe you have a particular skill that you'd like to share with young people, maybe you're a musician or an artist, a mechanic or a chef? If you think you could offer your skills and experience to help young people we would love to hear from you.

You don't need any specific training or prior experience, the most important thing is that you share Sidewalk's values and respect young people. We give all volunteers training and ongoing support to help them grow and develop in thier understanding of youth work. If this appeals to you please do get in touch. Everything starts with a conversation!

Admin and Organisation

Behind the face to face work is the planning, admin and crucial day to day upkeep of the project. If you feel you could offer us some of your time to help in this area we'd very much appreciate it!

- Administration - Book keeping, planning and general office assistance

- Fundraising - Writing to local business, helping find sources of funding.

Trustees and Steering Group Members

We're also looking for people to become trustees of Sidewalk and join our management committee. We meet every couple of months to reflect on the direction of the organisation and to envisage how we can best support young people and our local communities.
